Bern Balders - The Alter-Ego Effect/ My Spy-Event 7"
Ultra obscure minimal synth/ DIY action from Norway! Their one and only single, self-released in 1981 on DoReMix Records
Definitely one of the most interesting sounding singles of the era, mainly due to its botched mastering job, which makes it seem like the whole thing was recorded underwater!
Both songs are top drawer synthpop tunes; The Alter-Ego Effect is drenched in these compressed circular synth patterns and splashing hi-hats emanating from a Casio SK-1 or suchlike, while My Spy-Event is all hissy with a dark and mysterious lost-in-the-ether vibe. Because of their lo-fi nature, they really seep into the subconscious too. To cap it off it's housed in a very cool picture sleeve with the bizarre drug-induced lyrics to ponder on the back.
God knows if this will ever appear for sale again!
Condition:
The sleeve is graded VG+ As you can see there's some obvious ringwear on the reverse plus a very small tear just above the 'N' in 'BERN' on the front cover. Otherwise there are no seam splits and it remains superb and rather beautiful
The vinyl is graded Ex+ Only the lightest one or two hairlines visible when held to the light. It's been played once by me and just a few times by its previous owner.
I've tried to be as accurate and honest as possible in grading this item.
This is a very rare chance to acquire this one as it hardly ever shows up for auction. Definitely recommended for the most die hard minimal synth fans among you!
