Description
"The Day the Earth Stood Still" music by Bernard Herrmann
A fantastic gift for Herrmann/SF fans!
The premiere Fox Classics CD release of the original film score - not the wishy-washy re-recording!
The classic science-fiction film score. The notes describe it as "a scoring milestone that anticipated the era of electronic music with unheard of instrumentation for electric violins, electric bass, two high and low electric theremins, four pianos, four harps, and what Herrmann called 'a very strange section of about 30 odd brass' "
Review from "Movie Music":
"One of the most remarkable scores for the early science-fiction film genre, this one by Bernard Herrmann continues to influence scores for similar films made today. Although this wasn't the first time the theremin instrument was used in a film score, Herrmann made it the main focus of attention. The sound of the theremins, along with electric violin and electric brass, not only identified the alien menace high in the sky above Washington, it was the identifying theme for Gort that certainly made the villain more frightening and real for film audiences in 1951."
