Bert Jansch - Self Titled LP
TRA 125 (1965) Transatlantic Records.
Front laminated sleeve with original inner sleeve.
Overall a really nice 50 year old record. Record: In VG / + condition. Visually looks great. Plays very well with some light crackling. Small scuff side 1 and two but this doesn't pop or jump on playback. Spindle holes nice and tidy.
Sleeve: VG condition with corner crease and some thumb creases near open edge. The laminate has just started to lift at the spine edge. Theres a small bit of rounding on the corners. The spine is readable but flattened at the top and bottom 1 inch. Back cover fairly clean but for a mark top edge and price / index sticker. Bit of a ring shadow and a thumb crease.
Herbert Jansch was born in Glasgow, 1943. The descendant of a family from Hamburg, Germany. Jansch was sometimes called the British Bob Dylan and when he moved to London in the 1960's he met the engineer and producer Bill Leader, together they made a recording of Jansch's music on a reel-to-reel tape recorder. Leader sold the tape for £100 to Transatlantic Records, who produced an album directly from it. The album 'Bert Jansch' was released in 1965 and it went on to sell 150,000 copies. AND this is one of those copies. It includes Jansch's protest song "Do You Hear Me Now" which was brought to the attention of the pop music mainstream later that year by the singer Donovan, who reached No. 1 in the UK EP chart and No. 27 in the singles chart. Also included in Jansch's first album was his song "Needle of Death", a stark anti-drugs lament written after a friend died of a heroin overdose.
