Description
We wish we could tell you who was on this record, but we haven't been able to figure it out. The tracks aren't obscure...one side is "Love is a Many Splendored Thing", the other side is a Charleston type dance track...we think it's actually the Charleston Song, but it's a little different from the arrangements we've heard before. Both sides contain the same track played more than once, and all instrumental...there are no vocals, just some shouting from the bandleader/band members in the background. Instructions? Just shouts? It's hard to tell what they are saying. But we do think this is a rehearsal disk.
The arrangement of "Love" is particularly odd! It's kind of a swingy hep-cat arrangement...nothing like the usual orchestrally overblown version of this popular standard with building crescendoes upon crescendoes....nope, not at all. It's almost as if a prewar swing band was covering this postwar classic...but which band is it? We just don't know. We have listened to dozens of covers and none of them sound quite the same!
At any rate, with this record, you've got a one-of-a-kind recording, that's the nature of an acetate! But it's going to wear fast if you play it, so we don't recommend a whole lot of that. Condition is already somewhat worn, with some scratching but no skips.
