Up for auction is this definitive young Billie Holiday "Golden Years" 3LP box set catalog # C3L 21 - in gorgeous glossy clean condition. The booklet insert has a few anecdotes from those who knew her during this time, which I found very enlightening. These songs are truly the golden years of Ms. Holiday's youth; the music she made during the early 30's before falling into the tragic spiral which led to her heartbreaking end. She sounds so sweet, fresh, and vibrant, and it is clear by the end of side 1 why she has been renowned and beloved as the most authentic, groundbreaking and inimitable vocal artist of the 20th century.
Grading Cover: VG+ Some white fading/wear on cover and the residue from what must have been a sticker on the upper right corner of the front side. Hole punch in upper left corner, which just grazed the top of the booklet. Otherwise the box, its corners and spine, and the booklet are beautifully intact and sturdy. See photos! Vinyl: VG++/Ex I've played each record and they sounded great. There's a little wear around the center spindle holes. Only a few surface scratches and smudges viewable under bright light (tried to capture in the close-up pics but mostly you just see dust). Hard to see otherwise. There is some wear around the spindle holes. None of these imperfections affect play. The records are all visually graded at VG+/EX.

A good description of a VG+ record is “except for a couple minor things, this would be Near Mint.” Most collectors, especially those who want to play their records, will be happy with a VG+ record, especially if it toward the high end of the grade (sometimes called VG++ or E+).
VG+ records may show some slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK. Minor signs of handling are OK, too, such as telltale marks around the center hole, but repeated playing has not misshapen the hole. There may be some very light ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable.
VG+ covers should have only minor wear. A VG+ cover might have some very minor seam wear or a split (less than one inch long) at the bottom, the most vulnerable location. Also, a VG+ cover may have some defacing, such as a cut-out marking. Covers with cut-out markings can never be considered Near Mint."
