Description

Roost 406. Notes and supervision by Nat Hentoff. Live session called “Jazz At Storyville” with pianist Betty Taylor accompanied by Charles Mingus, bass; Marquis Foster, drums. 4 tracks. Taylor was 30 years old at the time of this recording and already had a significant career as both a player and a writer about jazz. Cover: VG+ to mint(-). Intact and clean. A few minor scuff marks on the cover. Light aging on the back cover. Record: VG+ or better. Visually shows no wear. Probably played only a few times. The music is clear but there are some clicks and crackles in places (somewhat more on the first track on each side). Roost’s 10” pressings were often “noisy”. In this case, the surface noise, while audible, is minimal by their standards. Mingus can be heard clearly. Taylor swings throughout. Audibly checked.
