An excellent original issue of this landmark progressive heavy-blues / acid-rock album from the legendary Billy Thorpe’s early 70’s outfit The Aztecs.
The line-up here is Billy with new drummer Kevin Murphy, pianist Warren Morgan, guitar legend Lobby Loyde and bassist Paul Wheeler and the tracks were recorded ‘live’ in the studio, September 1970 ; the result being a monster blues-rock jam of epic excellence.
With their new loud, brash and take-no-prisoners approach The Aztecs were certainly in a league of their own….as one reviewer put it …There's no denying that as a vocal phenomenon Billy Thorpe sings with the strength of a force five hurricane. It probably goes a long way to explaining why The Aztecs always played so darned loud: just to compete with Puffin' Billy's tonsils. Some people sing with balls - Billy Thorpe sings with boulders….
This is simply a classic Thorpie album with “Gangster Of Love” long recognised as hallowed prog-rock ground .. vale Billy and Lobby !!
