Description
Here, from my personal collection, is Bing Day's 'Mama's Place backed with 'I can't help it'. This is the original 1959 45 (Mercury 45-AMT 1047). (see photos)
Using the conventional grading system, I would grade both sides as 'excellent-'. They play through without skips or pops There are no noticeable surface marks and only occasional very light scratches that do not effect the play back. Both labels are unmarked and the centre is firm with only a slight spindle mark. ((Of course, it should be remembered that production sound quality in the 1950's was not the same standard that we expect today).
Bing Day is generally only known to vinyl collectors these days. However, he played bass with Johnny Rivers and was on guitar for the Mama's & Papas classics 'Monday Monday' and 'California Dreaming'.
This collectable, hard to find 45 from his early days, has two contrasting sides. 'I can't help it', is a powerful rockabilly/rock n' roll song while 'Mama's Place' is a spoken drawl over a cool backing. Ahead of its time back in 1959 but it was never off our local Juke box and this prompted me to buy my own copy. (But downsizing means even the old favourites have to go!)
The record will be supplied in a new white card cover and will be securely packaged.
