Ok, so quite a popular title to get on MFSL with a fancy super dooper reissue? But is that definitely the right thing to do? £50/£60/£70....for a reissue? No doubt for a reissue they are good...But...do they beat a genuine '68 near-master copy that plays great? Not so sure...
Why is this title suited to a MFSL reissue - because it is an amazing hifi workout....they packed every genre possible into just one title...One minute it's jazz....then it's a bit funky...now it's rocky...and back to orchestral. Holy crap - it is a serious workout...and only a top quality press will manage to carry it off. But what I'm saying is..a 1st press from '68 by CBS..high quality...should pretty much kick the ass...of any thing that comes after it...
Original CBS A1/B1 heavy-set CBS in UK. In my mind that equals GREAT AUIDIO. Deep grooves and detail galore. Original gatefold cover and CBS inner. Note the cover is original mono version which is what you'd have got in '68 as the rapid shift from mono to stereo came in. ABSOLUTE RIPPER!!>>

Cover (Ex-) Looks superb - front is superb minimal wear and just slight evidence of ageing creeping in. mot copies will be knackered! So it's a sign this copy has been looked after. Pretty white only faintest traces of ageing. SUPERB on the rear. Spine is 95% intact. Surfaces are smooth - no signs of contortion or damp at all. Clean and flat. Nice! Overall cover retains excellent rigidity. Very nice indeed.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) Plays clean throughout. At worst one slight mark per side - nothing remotely troublesome. Thorough testing plays and at least Excellent playback with one slightest deviation per side. Lots of energy and detail. Clean as a piercing whistle - perfect clean feeder....SUPERB. And I would argue with this sort of genre...purity and clean background is EXTREMELY important otherwise it will start to irritate quickly. I detected a couple of minor crackles in one spot per side...and a couple of minor ticks in one isolated spot. Whatever the genre... the audio is kick ass....orchestral is delivered with assurance and a lovely clean background. Excellent purity and realism. Can reissues do this job for £30.? I would argue... NOPE!
