Bloomsbury People were a prog-psych-rock band formed in Waukesha, Wisconsin in 1969. The members were: Sigmund Snopek III (keyboards, trombone, vocals), Jon Wyderka (vocals, percussion), Ding Lorenz (drums, percussion), Paul DuJardin (bass, trombone, vocals), Greg Janick (organ, saxophone, vocals), Dennis Lanting (electric guitar, acoustic guitar, vocals). Sigmund Snopek III went on to do experimental solo recordings in the 70's and played with The Violent Femmes in the 80's-90's. Sigmund began his career in the late 1960s with a prog-psych-rock band called Bloomsbury People. He has since created concept albums, pop songs, and classical compositions. Along the way, he performed and recorded with The Violent Femmes. In 2015, he was inducted into the Wisconsin Area Music Industry Hall of Fame. Snopek composed a jazz symphony to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of Waukesha, Wisconsin, which was performed at the University of Wisconsin–Waukesha on August 12, 1984. Snopek's works often have a local Milwaukee flavor to them, such as a song named for Robin Yount on his Baseball album. His classical works have been performed by many organizations in Milwaukee, including the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra. In the late 1970s Snopek and Byron Wieman III led a band that played in Wisconsin and was simply named "Snopek." They recorded two vinyl albums, "Thinking Out Loud" and "First Band On The Moon." A third rock album under the name "Sigmund Snopek III" titled "WisconsInsane" appeared on Dali Records in 1987, continuing his rock with His band the Bloomsbury People played an unconventional mixture of avant-garde rock, classical music, and baroque pop that eventually came to be characterized as progressive rock when it hit the mainstream a couple years later. He came into high demand as a sideman for other artists, appearing throughout the latter half of the '70s and '80s on records by Tom Paxton, Brian Ritchie, and the Violent Femmes, among others. He developed a longstanding relationship with the Femmes in the '80s. He frequently joined the band in concert and on tours and finally joined them full-time in the 1990s. He appeared on the VF studio recordings Viva Wisconsin (1999), Rock!!!!! (1998), Why Do Birds Sing? (1991), 3 (1988) and The Blind Leading the Naked (1986). (wiki)
