Description
Released by Blue Beat in 1966, cat # BB 358, this is “Only Soul Can Tell” by Dakota Jim (aka Slim Smith) c/w “Call Me Master” by Dakota’s Allstars ( aka Prince Buster’s Allstars.
This record needs no introduction from me. Even to my untrained ears, I know a great track when I hear it – and this is one! The instrumental B-side is pretty damn fine too!
By now, anyone who has bought one of my reggae singles knows their history. Clearly, this record was not played in the ballrooms of the 60’s or on the DJ’s radio show. The spindle hole is still very tight and the vinyl shown only light signs of play. The B-side label has a scuff (see picture), but is otherwise unmarked with only a couple small spindle marks on each centre.
Playing, there is a small amount of surface noise, but having played the record through several times (I couldn’t help it), this has already significantly reduced. I’ve been told this surface noise could be caused by the residue left over from the pressing process – it hasn’t been caused by over use. As the record has hardly been played in the last forty years, it may take a few plays for this residue to clear. As it is, the record plays excellently even with the bit of surface noise!
I’m not usually one to talk up my records, but these records are top, top quality and it is unusual at best for such a haul to come onto the market. Please remember to look at the other Blue Beat singles I have listed this week – these are the only ones I have. Miss them at your peril!
Postage and packing for one record will be £1 UK, £1.60 Europe and £2.30 USA and the Rest of the World. For two records, the costs are £1.20 UK, £2 Europe and £2.90 USA and the Rest of the World.
Insurance is extra and will be required for South East Asia (Singapore, Taiwan, Japan etc) regardless of the cost of the item. Other destinations will be expected to take up insurance if the value of the record or overall consignment exceeds £28.
Payment by PayPal is preferred for all customers; though I will accept cheques or postal orders for UK customers. Overseas customers must pay by Paypal unless agreed otherwise prior to auction end.
