I think musicologist Stephen Thomas Erlewhine got it entirely right about BLOOD ON THE TRACKS when he said, “Dylan made albums more influential than this, but he never made one better.”
Dylan at the time had just gone through a broken marriage, so the material here is at once sentimental, but in ways quite lovely and full of melancholy.
Great selections include TANGLED UP IN BLUE, SIMPLE TWIST OF FATE, IDIOT WIND, and IF YOU SEE HER, SAY HELLO, among others.
