Description

Here is definitely one of the “Holy Grails” in vinyl collecting!

And please check my other auctions for other items that may be of interest to you.

In this auction:

  • BLONDE ON BLONDE” LP by Bob Dylan

  • This LP is Columbia Records C2L 41.

  • It is a MONO (Monaural) LP that was released in 1966.

  • It is a DOUBLE-VINYL LP in a GATE-FOLD COVER.

  • This Columbia DOUBLE-VINYL LP has "2 Eye" MONO WHITE PRINT “360 SOUND” labels.

  • Based on information at the “Blonde On Blonde Labelography” web site, THE LP (COVER & TWO RECORDS) IN THIS AUCTION IS A FIRST MONO PRESSING. According to the web site:

“the version of the album with the records that list the second song on Side 2 as Memphis Blues Again is the first pressing (1966-1967) and is also the most common pressing.” Furthermore, FIRST PRESSINGS have: “red labels with two stylized speaker logos (or “eye logos”) one at 9 o’clock and one at 3 o’clock, the word “Nonbreakable” appears to the left side below the catalog number, and in the perimeter print at the bottom, there is a tiny speaker-logo to the right of “Marcas”.

  • Later pressing mono and stereo records (1967-1968) also have red labels with two stylized speaker logos (or “eye logos”), one at 9 o’clock and one at 3 o’clock. However, the word “Nonbreakable” does not appear on the left side and the second song on Side 2 is listed as “Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The”.

  • According to the “Labelography” web site:

“As the first pressing it is also the most sought after—if you’re a Dylan or ’60s collector and want one copy of BLONDE ON BLONDE to have in your collection, this is the copy to have!”

  • The Mono pressing of the LP may be more desirable because, according to the web site,” the mono records have significantly different mixes than the stereo records and the length of some of the tracks differ”.

  • The LP has GREAT cuts on it including “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35”, “I Want You”, “Memphis Blues Again”, “Visions of Johanna” and “Just Like A Woman”.

  • Merits that the “Blonde On Blonde” LP has received include:

    • Visions of Johanna” and “Just Like A Woman” have been named as being among Dylan's greatest compositions and were featured in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list.

    • Rainy Day Women #12 & 35” and “I Want You” were also two singles from the LP that became top-twenty hits in the U.S.

    • In 1999, the LP was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

    • The LP was ranked #38 in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list in 2020.

  • Critics have ranked “Blonde on Blonde” as one of the greatest albums of all time.

  • The FIRST PRESSING MONO GATE-FOLD COVER, ISSUED IN 1966 and referred to as the “girls cover”, is included in this auction. It is called the “girls cover”, because inside the gate-fold cover is a large photo of the Italian actress Claudia Cardinale and another photo of a woman whispering to Bob Dylan. Both of those photos were removed from subsequent covers of this LP (most likely for legal reasons, perhaps because Columbia Records had not paid for the rights to use those “girl” images) and replaced with photos of Bob Dylan. (Covers without the girls images were issued in 1968.)

  • The GATE-FOLD COVER would be in NICE VG CONDITION, however a small tear near the upper left corner of the front cover would probably affect the grade. Aside from that, the cover has light to moderate overall wear. There is a hint of light ring wear on the front cover above Dylan’s head and on the rear cover to the left of his coat and at the right on his coat. There is light wear on the spine that can be seen in the image of the front cover opened completely. There is light to moderate wear on the edges, at the openings and on the corners with a small “push” on one corner. There are NO seam splits and NO writing on the cover.

  • The VINYL is in NICE VG CONDITION with a number of very light/slight surface hairlines/scuffs on all 4 sides, but none are at all “feel-able”. The VINYL HAS LOTS OF GLOSS. There is some light label wear around the spindle holes. There ares also some very light spindle trails with no damage to the labels and are typically only visible when holding the record at certain angles in the light.

A NICE VG COPY of this LEGENDARY BOB DYLAN LP for someone’s

vinyl collection! It’s definitely a “Must Have LP!” for any vintage viny collection!
