Interesting for many reasons, not least of which is the half-speed mastering itself which produces a very fine cut, although maybe of more interest to fans, is the fact this was cut from tapes that had not been altered by Dylan. The story goes that he wasn't happy with the pacing of the album. So he simply asked for it to be sped up by approx. 1.7%. That might not sound like much... and it isn't in time terms but in pitch terms you can really hear it. This is actually how it was recorded and mixed. It was a post-mix decision to speed it up.
Listening to this you might just have a queasy moment or two getting used to the slower pacing but after a while you notice things like the true pitch, the calmer nature of the proceedings and generally more laid back atmosphere generated. A very interesting listen. Of course you can do that already if you have a previous issue, just walk the pace down 1.7% :-) Or buy this. It's a good piece of vinyl, in a slightly tatty sleeve, hence asking price.
Review by Andrew Hamilton. Allmusic
David Clowney (bka Dave "Baby" Cortez) played the organ with the same aggression as a pro football linebacker: he was theatrical, dressed loud, and loved playing exaggerated scales. He scored with "The Happy Organ," a million-seller in the '60s. On his only LP for the Isley Brothers' T-Neck subsidiary, he performs instrumentals of the Isleys and other T-Neck artists' songs. Funky versions of "It's Your Thing," the insidious "I Turned You On," and "I Know Who You Been Socking It To" will get your feet's attention. A cover of "Love Is What You Make It" by the Sweet Cherries is a decent organ-led ballad. Baby's rendition of Judy Clay's "Somebody's Been Messin' with My Thing" is as solid as the vocal. Far too brief, it only takes 26 minutes to hear all ten songs.
I'm not really a record dealer - this is more of a hobby for me.
I am selling this perfectly good record because I record the music and sell it on. I keep hi-resolution vinyl 'rips' made on audiophile equipment.
The recordings can be listened to on dvd-audio discs or through hi-resolution sound-cards.
