Very 1st Columbia Records Demonstration issue of Bob Dylan’s debut album released on March 17, 1962. This is the 1st true promotional release with the “Demonstration Record Not For Sale” print labels and not the second demonstration release with the commercial labels and a white “For Demonstration Use Only Not For Sale” sticker. Original cardboard promotional cover contains an original round silver-foil with a large star. I can say with confidence that these stickers reading “A NEW STAR ON COLUMBIA RECORDS” were affixed to the covers of only very early 1st pressing copies that were sent to radio stations several months before the official release. The center of the back cover contains a promotional red-pink promotional ink rubber stamp. 1st print cover with the Monophonic catalog number CL-1779 contains the “© COLUMBIA RECORDS 1962” print next to the silver-foil sticker in the lower left-hand corner on the front. Original 1st print red and black 6-eye Columbia Records labels with a silver “Demonstration Record Not For Sale” print on both sides. These unique labels are present only on the very 1st Columbia Records promo release while on the second promo release the silver print was replaced with a white sticker. This DJ radio station promotional copy was pressed at the Columbia Records Terre Haute, IN pressing plant and contains a large “T” machine stamped factory identifier etched in the runout groove. The full matrix numbers has the very early 1st -1A / -1A matrix stampers: Side 1 - XLP-55619-1A  T   A I I I / Side 2 - XLP-55620-1A  T  B I I. The album comes with an original Columbia Records color print inner sleeve with the other Columbia release adverts.

I grade the cover as Near Mint Minus. It's very clean and doesn't have any writing, soiling, splits, wear or ring wear. The rigid spine contains a fully readable text and doesn't have any scuffing. The paste over slick on the back cover is very clean and doesn't have any shelf wear. Side 1 of the vinyl is somewhere between strong Very Good Plus and Excellent Minus and Side 2 is in strong Very Good Plus. The vinyl retains its beautiful factory gloss, only having some very light surface scuffs from the original Columba Records inner sleeve, which is in Near Mint condition and doesn't have any splits. The shiny clean labels are in Excellent condition and are scuff- and wear-free with only just a couple of very light spindle marks that can be seen under a strong light source. The vinyl plays great, only having some light occasional background noise, which is most likely just static and could get reduce or go away if the record is professionally cleaned with a VPI cleaning machine.
