Bootsy's Rubber Band - Stretchin' Out In Bootsy's Rubber Band, Warner Bros. Records BS 2920 * Sealed P-Funk gold. The mothership A-listers bring their A-game to these recordings. It's as funky as one would expect, produced by George Clinton himself, evoking the spirit and sound of the Parliament albums. Funk-bangers on the first side akin to what Parliament was doing around the same time. "Stretchin' Out" with its call-and-response between the silky smooth bassline and the horns, "Psychoticbumpschool"'s introduction and exploration of the P-Funk babies concept, and "Another Point of View" sounding like an early-70s Funkadelic rock cut taken into the stratosphere by some seriously bent soloing from Bernie Worrell. The highlight of the second side is the leader, "I'd Rather Be With You," its mellow verses bleeding into a catchy, pleading chorus. Guitarists Catfish Collins and Garry Shider lay down some seriously funky arrangement wah-wah, and Worrel's brilliant descending line that introduces the track sounds like a melodica rising above the quiet din of a tranquil neighborhood. The other big moment for P-Funk fanatics comes in "Physical Love," on which Eddie Hazel lays down his unmistakable soulful fretwork over Bootsy's subdued, bass-driven composition.

Vinyl: NM. Looks like it just came from a retail store and it was opened for the first time. The finish is shiny, with no visible defects. Labels are superb, clean and bright without marks. Spindle shows no sign of wear. And no warps.
