Description

redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This superb LP from Amadeo (AVRS 6089, Austrian pressing, red/silver label – ED1, heavy vinyl, stereo) features Mario Rossi and the Chamber Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera in Volume II of their exhilirating and poetic traversal of Vivaldi's L'Estro Armonico, Concerto Grossi Op. 3 Nos. 1-12, boasting the the brilliant solo artistry of violinists Will Boskovsky and Jan Tomasow – recordings originally made and first issued on LP by Vanguard in 1960.

Among the other participating soloists are violinists Philipp Matheis and Walter Hintermeier, cellist Richard Harand, and harpsichordist Hermann Nordberg. It should be noted that these are very stylish performances and are marred by none of the “big band” heavy-handedness that marred many contemporary recordings of Vivaldi’s music.

Those unfamilair with Amadeo pressings would do well to investigate them. Theirs was a rich catalog encompassing original recordings and licenses from other labels, including – as was the case here – from the American Vanguard label. Yet, Amadeo issues boasted their own artwork and early releases were pressed on thick flat vinyl, with glossy, fully laminated jackets. They are superb albums in every way.

The striking cover photo of Mario Rossi is credited to Fayer, Vienna. There are informative liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, provided in German only.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is a 2” split to the lower edge, as well as bumping/wear at corners, discoloration, and aging. Nonetheless, the jacket remains solid and and presentation worthy – overall, still a very good collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.
