Description

Box set Wagner - Ring des Nibelungen - Vinyl - Solti Original 1958 recording - Sealed - 19 Discs - Rare! This is quite a find: A complete original boxset of Wagner first ever full length vinyl recording of Der Ring Des Nibelungen, from 1958.
One amazon reviewer wrote:
Justly called everything from "the greatest recording of anything" to "the insurpassable", the legendary Ring of the Nibelungen Cycle deserves its rich history. Most audiences' eyes will have already been caught by this fabulous work of Wagner's incredible genius, from the Levine/Behrens performance with the Metropolitan to the original Bayreuth productions. Though there is an abundance of Ring recordings and several very fine complete Cycles on compact disc, few can even compare to the stunning Solti recording. The box set contains 19 records including full text booklets, as well as a "making of" book describing the amazing story how this unique opera was for the first time recorded in full length - which took over seven (!) years.
I really encourage you to read the extensive reviews of the book, which is for sale on amazon, because they obvioulsy shed light on the recording which I am currently selling. Read the reviews here:

It's quite an amazing story! (For example, how they managed to convince the already retired legendary Kirsten Flagstad to sign-up to the recording, etc)
The sets are devided into the four operas (as you can see on the fotos), three of which are still sealed. One of them was opened by me to play the first side of the first records. The other records are untouched.
The sound quality is fabulous, whereby this obvioulsy depends on your record player... (I have over 500 records as I am big fan of vinyl, so much nicer than CDs...)
The box set itself as well as the book have seen better times, as you can see from my photos, but that clearly has no effect on the quality of the recording which are still sealed with plastic.
Here is what Wikipedia says about George Solti, the conductor:
Sir Georg Solti, KBE (pronounced /?d??rd? ???lti/[1]; 21 October 1912 – 5 September 1997) was a Hungarian-British orchestral and operatic conductor. He holds the record for having received the most Grammy Awards, having personally won 31, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.[2] He is widely regarded as one of the greatest conductors of the 20th century. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georg_Solti)
Lastly, I can only urge you to read more about Wagner's crazy opus magnum: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Der_Ring_des_Nibelungen

The set is quite heavy. I would prefer pick-up or meeting in London. I will determine final shipping costs depending on where you live. Let me know if you have any questions.
