Description
Three excellent condition vinyl albums & one CD from the acclaimed American soul / jazz singer and guitarist Boz Scaggs.
Silk Degrees (1975) is perhaps the definitive Boz Scaggs album, a worldwide success in 1976-77, which includes the hit singles Lowdown, What can I say and Lido shuffle, plus the ballad We're all alone (which was a hit for Rita Coolidge in 1977). Catalogue no. CBS 81193
Middle Man (1979) is a highly polished mix of California soul, smooth jazz and rock, with Boz’s effortlessly cool vocals backed by keyboard player David Foster and the members of the band Toto, along with contributions from the likes of Carlos Santana and Ray Parker Jr. The 9 tracks include the singles Breakdown dead ahead and Jojo (that track in particular a tour de force of slick jazzy musicianship and singing). Catalogue no. CBS 86094
Hits (1980) is a 10-track compilation drawing from Boz’s career between 1974 and 1980. It includes the 1976-77 hits Lowdown, What can I say, and Lido shuffle along with two classy 1980 non-album hits Miss Sun and Look what you've done to me, and also includes two songs from Middle Man. Catalogue no. CBS 84706
All three discs are in pristine condition, with no visible marks, scratches or surface scuffs whatsoever. They play perfectly with a very low level of background surface noise, reflecting the fact that these albums have been played only a few times (prior to being taped for in-car listening), and have been carefully stored for some 35 years (I have owned them from new). There are a couple of small clicks in a quiet passage of one song from Middle Man, but fortunately a flawless version of it is on the Hits album.
The album sleeves (and insert sheets in the case of Silk Degrees and Middle Man) are likewise in excellent condition. The Silk Degrees sleeve is in virtually immaculate condition, while Middle Man and Hits have just a very minor crease visible in each case.
The sale also includes a copy of the 2007 issue remastered edition CD of Silk Degrees, with the best sound yet for this album on CD. This also includes bonus 3 live tracks, and a 12 page booklet with an essay about the album and additional colour photos from the original album cover photo shoot (catalogue no. Columbia Legacy 82876 86715 2). The disc has been played only a couple of times and is in immaculate condition, although there is a small crease in the front cover of the booklet (just visible in the close-up photo).
If sent through the post, the albums will be very carefully packaged, but to minimise any risk collection would also be welcome (near Church Stretton, south Shropshire).
