Brandenburg Concerto 4&5 Analogue Audiophile Recording
If you are a fan of J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto’s, here is your chance to hear them (4&5) played on original instruments by a Baroque Chamber Orchestra, and faithfully reproduced on this all-analogue audiophile recording. This record is the serious audiophile and audio equipment reviewers secret weapon for high end sound. Try a google search if you like; there is a little info on this record, but not much, so don't let the secret out! Here’s the specifics from the back jacket copy; Ars Musica, founded in 1970 by Lyndon Lawless, is one of Americas few resident chamber orchestras. The ensemble has drawn thirteen internationally trained baroque specialists to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where year round they devote their professional energies to re-interpreting the great legacy of 17th and 18th century music on instruments of that period. We wanted to bring you as much of the experience of this event as possible, including the ambience of the stone and wood church. Clearly this was a job for Peter McGrath. Would Peter come from sunny Florida to frozen Michigan to engineer a recording? For Ars Musica, Peter did. This acoustic recording was made using two B&K spaced omni microphones, with custom built microphone pre-amplifiers by Mark Levinson, fed directly into a Mark Levinson modified 30 i.p.s. half-track Studer A-60 tape recorder.Peter used a Sound Technology 1500A analyzer to optimize the performance of the tape machine with each reel of Ampex 456 tape. For the playback monitor system we used Image Master loudspeakers, driven by a Bryston 4B amplifier. No noise reduction or signal processing was used in the recording or mastering process. The two-channel recording, of course, required no mix down, and thus the actual original master tape was used for cutting the master disc. Bob Ludwig cut the masters at Masterdisc in New York, using an identical tape deck and a Neumann VMS-70e lathe. Pressings are by Europa disc on finest quality Teldec vinyl. Recorded at Bethel United Church near Manchester, Michigan in October 1980 (#5) and February 1981 (#5). We hope this recording will satisfy both the serious audiophile and classical music enthusiast.”
This is a timegate recording and product of DCM Corporation(remember DCM Timewindows Loudspeakers). Disc, inner sleeve and jacket are in mint condition. All my records are stored in a smoke free, climate controlled home since purchase. They have been played on a properly calibrated Project Perspective turntable and arm with Linn K-9 phono cartridge and have been kept clean with a Nitty Gritty 2.5 record vacuum cleaner.
