Description

Here for auction is a rare studio sessions LP from the collection of author/singer Julian Cope, who purchased the disc in 1978 from Liverpool’s Probe Records. Since then, the record has been stored in Cope’s Head Heritage store room and remains much the same as when it was purchased – the monochrome cardboard cover is simple and displays the words ‘Your Copy no. -/200’. The mysterious label  (see photo) declares not Eno but ‘Sam Sputnik & His Outer Space Five’.

Potential bidders should be ready for some very different performances from the familiar studio LPs. Longer and more experimental, these session songs feature The Winkies on Side One in BBC session and Phil Manzanera’s 801 band on Side Two.

Opening Side One, ‘The Paw Paw Negro Blowtorch’ is clean save for one large click near the end.

‘Fever’ is clean save for tiny intermittent clicks.

‘The Fat Lady of Limburg’ is clean.

On Side Two, ‘Third Uncle’ begins with a click/jump, but is clean thereafter.

‘Baby’s On Fire’ also features a single skip during the extended guitar solo.
