Brian Eno – Before And After Science UK 1977 Electronic, Rock

Brian Peter George St John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno, born Brian Peter George Eno), also known by the mononym Eno, is an English musician, composer, record producer and visual artist. He is best known for his pioneering contributions to the ambient music and electronic genres, and for producing, recording, and writing works in rock and pop music. A self-described "non-musician", Eno has helped introduce unconventional concepts and approaches to contemporary music. He has been described as one of popular music's most influential and innovative figures. In 2019, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Roxy Music. 'Before and After Science' is his fifth solo studio album, originally released by Polydor Records in December 1977 in the United Kingdom and by Island U.S. soon after. Produced by Eno and Rhett Davies, it is the first of Eno's popular music works to be published under his full name.

The custom printed unlaminated card sleeve would certainly conservatively grade as VG+. It shows clear signs of handling and storage wear (although only minimal corner rubbing/bumping) but very little ring and edge wear. The spine is readable and the entry edge shows minimal signs of use. As with many sleeves with a white background any blemishes can be clearly seen. The front of the sleeve is still in very reasonable condition but the back does show some discolouration around the edges and is marked in a couple of places as is clearly shown in the pictures. However, even after mentioning these defects, this is very reasonable for a 46 year old item.

The original polylined paper inner is undamaged apart from some age related discolouration. Graded as EX.
The great thing about this copy is the vinyl which may have been played but is without doubt NM. The Polydor labels are clean with only the hint of a spindle mark. On play grading there was a little faint noise on the run in on both sides but nothing substantial, and maybe a rare pop or click, during the remainder of the album. Certainly nothing to spoil the enjoyment of the record - even at high volume. It plays superbly with very strong audio. The surface is very clean, glossy and shiny with no noticeable marks, a superb copy that definitely grades as NM. Indeed, if not for the sleeve, this would certainly be classified as an archive copy.
The matrix numbers are believed to be   Matrix / Runout (Runout, side A): 2302071 A//3 T GONE BEFORE TO THAT UNKNOWN AND SILENT SHORE Matrix / Runout (Runout, side B): 2302071 B//2 T ARCANE BENEFITS OF CREED
An opportunity to acquire an album in great overall condition but, sadly, this copy does NOT include a grey/light blue portfolio with four offset prints on rough paper by Peter Schmidt or a coupon from Polydor that could be filled out and returned when additional prints were made available.
