ABOUT THIS PRESSING — WHY IT'S RARE

According to the liner notes of the Working Backwards: 1983–1973 box set, Music for Films: Volume Two (EGSP 2) was designated a Special Edition for boxed set and film directors only. It was disc 10 of the 11-LP box — previously unreleased and not available as a standalone retail record. Copies that came inside the box were gold foil-stamped "E'G BOX" on the rear sleeve. This copy has no such stamp — making it one of the scarce unstamped copies that circulated outside the box. These are genuinely hard to come by.

CONDITION

Vinyl: VG+ The two sides play differently and are described separately below for full transparency.

Side 1: Excellent. There is a single audible tick at approximately the 16-minute mark — the only blemish on an otherwise extremely quiet, clean side. Easily NM were it not for that one moment.

Side 2: Good but not quite NM.

• Track 1: Extremely minor surface noise periodically audible during the very quietest passages
• Track 2: A couple of light ticks at the very start
• Track 3: A few ticks appearing around the halfway point

Nothing on Side 2 is severe — no deep scratches, groove damage, or persistent noise. But in the interest of accuracy, I think that VG+ is the right overall call.

Cover/Sleeve: NM (Near Mint) Sharp corners, no seam splits, no writing, no stickers, no ring wear. Clean on all surfaces. No "E'G BOX" foil stamp on the rear — confirming this as a standalone, non-box copy. Please see photos.

RUNOUT / MATRIX — COLLECTOR NOTES

• Catalog number EGSP 2 present as expected
• "STERLING" pressed into the vinyl — Sterling Sound, New York
• "HUB" hand-etched — Hub-Servall Record Mfg. Corp.
• A second catalog number has been scratched out and rendered illegible — most likely EGBS 2, the number used on the common retail pressing, suggesting this lacquer was shared with or prepared for that release. A small but fascinating detail of Eno pressing history.

ABOUT THE ALBUM

Brian Eno described this record as picking up where the first Music for Films left off, but containing fewer pieces with greater average length. Recorded at Grant Avenue Studios, Ontario, with compositions by Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, and Roger Eno. Several tracks have never appeared on CD in these specific versions.
