Pat Metheny – "Bright Size Life" – Vinyl LP (ECM 1073, 1976) Original German GEMA Pressing — w/ Jaco Pastorius & Bob Moses

Up for auction is an original German pressing of Pat Metheny's landmark debut album Bright Size Life on ECM Records, catalog number ECM 1073, made and printed in West Germany. This is the original GEMA pressing — the most sought-after version of this album among jazz collectors and audiophiles, widely regarded as the finest-sounding pressing of the record.

The album features Pat Metheny on guitar, the then-virtually-unknown Jaco Pastorius on electric bass, and Bob Moses on drums. Recorded in December 1975 at Tonstudio Bauer in Ludwigsburg and produced by Manfred Eicher, this was Metheny's first recording as a leader and is now recognized as a landmark of modern jazz guitar. Having a copy of the original German pressing is something serious jazz and ECM collectors actively seek out.

Cover/Jacket: Good Plus (G+), with specific flaws fully documented in the photos. Please read carefully and review all photos before bidding:

The cover has yellowed with age, as is not uncommon with laminated ECM covers of this vintage. The clear protective laminate coating on the cover has begun to peel in areas — this is clearly shown in the photographs. The glue holding the bottom of the back cover has let go and the seam has opened. Apart from these issues the cover is otherwise structurally present and intact, with no writing or additional damage. I want to be completely transparent about these flaws so there are no surprises.

Vinyl: Good Plus to Very Good (G+/VG). The disc has been lightly played and I can see no visible scratches anywhere on the playing surface. I do want to note one caveat: there appears to be some kind of residue on Side Two, Track Four. I am not certain of its nature or whether it is audible during play. It very likely can be cleaned off — a proper record cleaning should address it — but I am disclosing it here in full so the buyer is aware. All other areas of the vinyl look excellent.
