Description
Bruce Haack with Esther Nelson on Dimension 5 D 161 Stereo.
"Dance To The Music" Cover is in VG condition. (overall the cover
is in pretty good shape except that there is a 2" seam split on the top
seam starting at the opening and there is also a name written on the
front cover. besides that the cover has some light to moderate wear)
Record is in VG++ to Near Mint condition. (looks very clean and barely
played at all. just some very light superficial surface marks) This is such
an incredibly strange record!! It is so completely unique and original that it
isn't easy to categorize at all. It is part an electronic / synthesizer record, part
children's record, part dance record, and also a psychedelic music record too.
Bruce Haack was / is an electronic music pioneer who built his own electronic music
instruments and synthesizers starting in the 1960s. Much has been written about him
on the internet, and youtube has plenty of videos and information about him as well.
simply look up "Bruce Haack" on google and youtube and you'll find plenty of information.
On this record Bruce is accompanied by singer Esther Nelson and together on this record
they play the strangest and weirdest electronic synthesizer dance music imaginable in an attempt
to entertain and encourage the kids to dance along and participate and interact with the performers.
Imagine a weird homemade avant-garde electronic musician along with his female sidekick invading a
an elementary school classroom in 1972 and putting on a show to get the kids dancing and
playing musical chairs and then even getting them to sit down and relax after getting them riled
up and exhausted from the physical activities and entertaining them with a soothing psychedelic
drone-like synthesizer song with female narration like "Soul Transportation" to calm them down.
The kids seem to enjoy the whole experience and their voices are heard at various times on the record.
All of the songs are originals and despite the fact that some of the songs have similar titles to familiar R&B
hit songs they are not cover versions of these songs. (Dance To The Music, and Hand Jive for example)
It is hard to imagine that public schools allowed this kind of weirdness and craziness into their classrooms,
but in the 1970s things were very different from the way things are today. I wish people like this would
have visited my school back when I was a kid.... The lyrics to the first song "Bored Of Education" really
set the stage that this isn't going to be your typical children's entertainment.
"Dance to this blues-boogie the way you feel it - not the way you see others dancing. Then teach your
dance to your parents or your teacher.
When we were just beginning we had to go to school. We had to read and study somebody else's rules.
And we were bored with education and tired of being fooled...
We knew as much as our teachers about a lot of things, and when we tried to tell them they called us
ding-a-lings, and we were bored with education it didn't match our wings...."
