Buccaneer – LP – 1980 Blunderbuss Records

(p)© 1980 Privateer Productions

This LP is in a gatefold sleeve and on the inside left-hand side is written:

Since the beginning of history, hundreds of accounts of the infamous deeds of pirates such as Black Beard, Sir Francis Drake, Robert Moore and Captain Kidd have been recorded.  However, in an attempt to paint a colourful picture for future generations, historians have failed to record the deeds of a small clan of daring and cunning men.  So accomplished in the arts of piracy were these men, that they plundered ships of the seas for many years and were never brought to justice for their foul deeds.  Although little is actually known about them, this group of pirates who claimed no country and gave no allegiance, affected the tide of events of the world’s history more than even the most famous of pirates.

The Spanish government, the wealthiest nation in the world at that time, fearing invasion, embarked upon a wild scheme to protect its wealth.  Nine floating fortresses were constructed in a plan to ship Spain’s gold to her colonies in the New World for safekeeping.  Unknown to everyone but the Queen and her court, a tenth ship was built.  This vessel was twice the size of any galleon on the seas and was equipped with an armament to match.  This was the vessel for the movement of Spain’s gold.

Using the original nine vessels as an armada to divert attention, the tenth “undefeatable” galleon was charted to sail to an area today known as Greenland.  This journey was unknown to all outsiders except for a group of the most cunning of all pirates.

This album is the story of these men and their incredible journey to capture the bounty of the richest government on earth.  The insurmountable odds against them and the dangers of uncharted waters makes this an adventure in the truest sense.

To obtain the true response of this album listen to it loud from start to finish.  Let yourself become swept into the energy and excitement of the high seas onboard the Anne Bonney.

This is BUCCANEER™

On the opposite side is the following: .

William Bonney

William Bonney was born on a merchant ship returning to Scotland from a trading voyage to the West Indies.

Abandoned by his mother Anne at the age of seven weeks, William was placed in an orphanage in Scotland.  He remained there for 12 years then ran away and hid on a vessel bound for England.

Bonney roamed the piers and smoky harbour bars for over a year stealing food to keep from starving.  However, this came to end when William was shanghaied by a drunken sailor and dragged aboard an actual pirate ship bound for the high seas.

It was aboard this ship that William Bonney learned the arts of piracy from which his name would become infamous.  Violent by nature, William Bonney achieved legendary stature as a master swordsman and fighter.  No man dared stand in his path to ill-gotten riches.

Lord Vendetta

Born of French nobility, Lord Vendetta was the rightful heir to the crown of France.  However, when scandalous rumours spread throughout France about who had fathered his birth, Vendetta was robbed of his future throne.

On the eve of his younger brother’s coronation to the throne, Lord Vendetta mysteriously vanished.  He was not to be seen nor heard of for more than a year.  During this time tales of his escapades became the talk of sailors throughout the high seas.  Soon, tales of Lord Vendetta’s involvement with a gang of pirates spread among the merchant seamen of the world and eventually reached the royal Vendetta family.  Lord Vendetta’s face and eccentric manner became well known everywhere as he roamed the seas and coast lines of Western Europe.

It was often said that Vendetta was seen wearing a lavish robe and leading pirate raiding crews.  He often sarcasticly boasted to his captives-“I am the real ruler of France”.

These embarrassing tales caused the royal family to place a handsome reward on Lord Vendetta’s head.  However, Vendetta’s reputation for fighting with the vigour and pride of a king kept even the greediest of bountiers from ever collecting the reward.

Madjack

Shortly before sunrise (date unknown) the Buccaneer ship Anne Bonney collided with something in the sea.  The resounding thud hastened Lord Vendetta and William Bonney to the deck.  As they peered through the fog, a large raft bobbed up and down in the water at the side of the ship.  In the centre of the raft, a filthy, vile empersonage glared up at them.  The man snarled like a dog and obscenities spewed forth from his mouth.  In thick leather bindings, he was strapped to the raft, outraged by his awakening.

Curiosity taking the better part of them, Lord Vendetta and William Bonney ordered the man brought aboard.

Extremely foul and violent, the man became known as Madjack.  Nothing was known about his past.  Madjack confided in no one.  Every man aboard the Anne Bonney watched him with extreme vigilance, knowing the slightest provocation would send him into a death rage.  Only Vendetta and Bonney did he befriend and soon his twisted laughter became a familiar sound of the ship
