Norgran Records, MGN-16, Mono, 10" 33 1/3 RPM
This album is part of Sweet Melissa Records' posting of Jazz & Blues 10" 33 1/3 vinyl this week! The Buddy DeFranco Quartet, on this record, includes DeFranco, clarinet; Sonny Clark, piano; Gene Wright, bass; and Bobby White, drums. Recorded under the personal supervision of Norman Granz, founder of renowned jazz labels Clef, Norgran, Verve, and Pablo Records. In Granz's liner notes, he writes of this album showing "another facet of Buddy De Franco's tremendous artistic ability. For the first time, Buddy produces ballads with the melodic line primary, and the result is a rewarding one -- for the composition, for the listener, and yes, for De Franco himself, because it represents another step upward in his growth." Part of the "Jazz at the Philharmonic" series. Vinyl is in fair condition; many minor scuffs that constitute some noticeable surface noise on playback. But still, the music comes through beautifully! An excellent find!
