Description
This is Buddy Guy’s 1968 LP ‘A Man and the Blues’ on Vanguard in stereo, catalogue number VSD-79272. This is the US first pressing and the matrices are XSV124956-1A/XSV124957-1A.
This comes immediately after Buddy Guy’s long haul at Chess records and numerous collaborations with both Junior Wells, Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, Little Walter and others. Reputedly Leonard Chess preferred Guy in his role as house guitarist at Chess and was unwilling to support his solo career. It was only when he went from Chess to Vanguard in 1968 that Guy was able to start doing what he wanted to do as a solo artist and this album was the first product of that freedom. Backing musicians include Otis Spann on piano and Freddie Below on drums, both stalwarts of many Chess classics.
The cover is VG++ with light ring wear and some rubbing on the back (see pictures).
The record is VG++, with two marks on one side, is unmarked on the other side and plays well.

I am not a record dealer. Over the next few weeks I am selling off my collection of some two hundred albums, mainly from the 1960s and 1970s (see my other items). These have been stored with care and unplayed over the past twenty years. Before this most were played only on a Linn LP12 deck and carefully handled. None of them are mint (it was a working record collection) but most are in extremely good condition. Many were bought as the albums were released and so are first pressings. I have tried to use the guide to condition in Record Collector as a guide to my descriptions of condition and am also providing other information such as matrix numbers wherever possible. I am also posting a number of photos of each album. If anyone buys an album and feels it has not been accurately described, I will happily refund as long as the record is returned to me promptly in the condition that it left here. I will post albums out, signed for whenever possible, in the appropriate size of high end record mailer, as supplied by Covers 33 within two working days of receiving cleared funds via Paypal.
Anything over £30 will go out Special Delivery in the UK or International Signed For abroad.
