Buffalo Springfield 1973 Japan WLP: Phenomenal Near Mint Rarity

Up for auction what allmusic.com describes as the “definitive” pre-box Buffalo Springfield 2-LP retrospective in an indescribably rare Near Mint Japanese White Label Promo edition. I have never seen another one of this title here in Japan in any edition, let alone in its original, first press 1973 white label promo incarnation. I can scarcely imagine it being in any way, shape or form anything but a tremendous rarity. I do believe it may be nearly impossible to find, anywhere.

The original, textured cover is in beautiful, well-preserved shape and comes very close to Near Mint. There is some slight wear to the spine and some very slight age discoloration to the inner cover and lyric sheet—but, these are very slight.

The OBI is complete and without tears or flaws.

And the vinyl is immaculate. The playing surfaces are whisper silent and using audiophile grade equipment I cannot recall anything in the way of a pop or a tick. Solid Near Mint vinyl. The white labels are pristine, clean and white and clearly warrant a grade of Near Mint.

Here’s a review of the contents from allmusic (track list also available there):

“Not to be confused with their self-titled debut album, this double LP, which can still be found without too much hassle, is clearly the best Springfield compilation, at least until the overdue day when a box set appears that includes everything recorded by this superb band. It does miss some good songs, especially from the first album, but zeroes in on their very best work, and includes a nine-minute version of "Bluebird" available nowhere else, as well as excellent liner notes.”

While allmusic is basically right saying the stock US Atco LP “…can still be found without too much hassle” (I wonder if that’s also true for NM copies?), I am convinced that this solid Near Mint Japanese White Label Promo First Press can only be obtained with tremendous, near impossible hassle outside of the example being offered here.
