Description

JOHN CAGE 27’10.554”

FOR A PERCUSSIONIST

MARCEL DUCHAMP

THE BRIDE STRIPPED BARE BY HER BACHELORS, EVEN. ERRATUM MUSICAL

FINNADAR SR 9017( 1977, USA)

Percussionist Donald Knaack performs works by John Cage & FIRST RECORDINGS as realized by Donald Knaack of artist Marcel Duchamp’s the “Erratum Musical” which bears the same title as Duchamp’s “Large Glass”. It proposed an elaborate compositional process utilizing chance operations to create a new musical alphabet. The score consists of a manuscript that describes the compositional process and how to realize it. Knaack chose for his realization of the work to make new percussion instruments from glass that suppress the virtuoso intermediary. Glass was chosen because of Duchamp’s interest and work with glass and transparency. The instruments include twelve types of wind chimes, a xylophone mad of glass rods, a xylophone made of bottles, wine glasses, tube chimes and glass maracas. There are 24 instruments & 95 timbres. Great stuff!

Record is in NEAR MINT+ condition (appears unplayed) & jacket is NM.

I recently acquired a small but superb collection of modern, experimental, improvised, & electronic music. I will be offering 50 or so items from this collection at the end of each month. This kind of material rarely surfaces so keep looking for future auctions.
