Chicago guitarist, singer and songwriter Terry Callier made his recorded debut with The New Folk Sound Of Terry Callier, first laid to plate in 1964 for Prestige. Callier's interpretive talents rose to the likes of 'Cotton Eyed Joe' and '900 Miles' here, proving his worth in a seamless combination of standard and original, finally picking up the folk and soul seam at the tender age of 23. This LP marks the X of a career that would later see Callier expand into rich, genre-crossing explorations, balancing intricate guitar work with warm, resonant vocals; though he would "disappear" to Mexico before its scheduling, delaying the actual album release from 1965 to 1968.
