There is hip hop that traverses worlds but to reach Universalis (consider langua from Ivory Coast) where semantics are broken apart for other-worldly parathesia-like lyrics that stun and paralyze your body is what makes this album particularly unique. You won't find a better hip hop album, EL_p is certainly better at stabs than cutted loops or w/e which manifolds like sip rather than usurpation. We don't have Worlds for another century, glad to enjoy for now.

Unquestionably one of the best hip hop albums of all time. From the raw talent and lyrical content on through the delivery of said content by rappers Vast Aire & Vordul, coupled with the spaced-out, hallucinogenic production by EL-P, it is easy to recognize that there is very little, if anything, that could be done to make this album better. A true rap masterpiece.

Man, this sounds so good. Much nicer dynamics than the streaming version I got familiar with. Definitely pick this up if you're a fan of this amazing LP.

For some reason I haven't listened to this for a couple of years, but now I'm listening to this on cassette tape on a crappy old 80's Hitachi boombox and it sounds amazing. It actually might even sound better on a boombox. The production is still a couple of galaxies away from everything else. The beats on Pigeon...

One can either love or hate this album, there isn't much room for middle ground. I hated it at first, but after a couple of listens, the album began to grow on me like crazy. CanOx is comprised of two rappers, Vast Aire (my personal favorite of the two) and Vordul, and they are as real as it gets. Vast Aire's metaphors resonate with me. He doesn't use flowery prose or generic rhyme schemes...everything is delivered exactly when he wants, how he wants. I usually hate the grungy, spaced-out electronic beats that El-P provides, but they end up complimenting the duo's gritty style perfectly.

El-P is the man behind the production of The Cold Vein, and for an album released in 2001, it was years ahead of it's time - only a genius could've actually wrangled these spacey, rambling sounds together into actual music (and good music at that). This is a truly unique album that deserves the space and attention that it requires to grow into something that your brain doesn't immediately reject. If you do give it a couple of listens and it ends up growing on you, the discomfort will be worth it, I promise.
