 Cannon's Jug Stompers were a fairly legendary jug band who recorded some pretty down-home stuff in Memphis between 1928-1930. That's Gus Cannon on banjo, jug and vocals, joined by Noah Lewis on harmonica, and Ashley Tompson on guitar.

Their Victor recordings were in print for only a short while, and then they were reissued (and re-coupled) on the Bluebird label. This one is from 1933. The songs are as follows :

“Viola Lee Blues” is from a session on September 20, 1928 and was originally part of Victor 38523

On the flip is “Minglewood Blues” and is from a session on January 30, 1928 and was originally issued on Victor 21267.
