Carpenters - Offering - ORIGINAL COVER! SUPER RARE!!! - 12" Vinyl LP - A&M Records - Catalog number SP 4205 - Plays in Stereo
The duo's first album, cut in 1969, amid the breakdown of America's social contract, the coming apart of the Beatles, the final flowering (and wilting) of the youth rebellion of the prior four years, and generally several seasons in hell. And in the middle of all of that, Karen and Richard Carpenter issued a finely crafted record that sometimes sounded like Spanky & Our Gang ("Your Wonderful Parade") and at other times like art-song — among the latter pieces, "Someday" is overproduced and overdramatic but also very beautiful, and a superb showcase for Karen Carpenter. "All I Can Do" is the most solid reminder of their origins as part of a light jazz trio called Spectrum, a pleasing vocal workout that might have been well covered by the Manhattan Transfer. Their version of "Get Together" is about as convincing as a version by the Cowsills would have been, but it's balanced by Richard Carpenter's slow ballad arrangement of "Ticket to Ride," an unexpected and beguiling (if too upbeat) cover of Neil Young's "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing," and a couple of superb originals, "Eve" and "All of My Life."
Track Listing Includes:
Side One - "Invocation", "Your Wonderful Parade", "Someday", "Get Together", "All Of My Life", "Turn Away".
Side Two - "Ticket To Ride", "Don't Be Afraid", "What's The Use", "All I Can Do", "Eve", "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing", "Benediction".
You are bidding on a very nice original US press from 1969 copy of The Carpenters Offering LP, A&M Records SP4205 Stereo.
Cover is very nice…with just a hint of ring wear.-- no writing, splits, tears, or tape. Back of cover has minimal spotting and very slight soiling and what appears to be some sort of humidity damage butr still not bad for a 35 yr old item. Paper sleeve has colorful ads promoting other A&M artists of the day.
The record itself shows VERY VERY MINOR scuffing and light surface marks from being slide in and out of its sleeve a few times. It plays PERFECTLY and the marks DO NOT MAKE SOUND WHILE PLAYING!!
This includes the beautiful rendition of the Beatles "Ticket To Ride," which John Lennon said was his favorite cover of one of his songs.
By the way, The Carpenters went back and re-recorded many of their hits, including "Ticket To Ride," and it's the re-recorded version that appears on many of their greatest hits collections.
The version on this album, is the orginal hit recording.
Thank you for choosing Root Cellar! Good luck bidding and ENJOY your record!

Note: Overseas shipping rates for LP lots usually range from $20-35 dollars due to high weight.
Note: Unless otherwise stated, all records are graded on a visual basis using the Goldmine grading guide.Grading System:
Mint (M): Absolutely perfect in every way - never played, possibly sealed. ( Mint grading used sparingly if at all)
Near Mint (NM or M-): Near Mint is the highest grade listed in all Goldmine guides. Many dealers won’t give a grade higher than this, implying (perhaps correctly) that no record is ever truly perfect. The record shows no obvious signs of wear. Lp should look new, just purchased. No creases, folds, seam splits or visual defects.
Very Good Plus (VG +): Very Good Plus will show signs that it was played, and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record surfaces may show slight signs of wear and may have scuffs or light scratches that don’t affect one’s listening experience. (Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK)
Very Good (VG): Many of the defects found in VG + will be more pronounced on a VG disc. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during intros and fades, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as with light scratches that will affect the sound. This is the lowest price grade used by Goldmine listings.
Good (G) Good Plus (G+): Good does not mean Bad! A record in Good condition can be played without skipping, but will have significant surface noise and scratches and visible groove wear (on a styrene record the groove will start to turn white). The jacket or sleeve will have seam splits (on edges). Tape, writing, ring wear, or other defects that overwhelm the object. If it is a common record, pass it up for another. If it is a rare hard to find record and the price is right, get it…but keep looking to upgrade.
Poor (P): Basically unplayable and should only be considered if the record is Impossible to find.
