CATAPILLA Catapilla (Vertigo 6360 029) RARE UK Progressive 1st Pressing w/Swirl MINT!
Very RARE original UK first pressing of "Catapilla" by Catapilla on Vertigo Records (February 1971).
With this most unsettling of debut albums, Catapilla staked their claim as perhaps the most dramatic and certainly most visionary of all the British progressive bands saddled with the epithet "jazz-rock". "Catapilla" features intricate arrangements, the gyrations of vocalist extraordinaire Anna Meek and some mighty heavy riffing, courtesy of the Catapilla horn section.
File under: Highly sought-after Prog-Rock monster. Enough said.
GRADING:
MINT- COVER. Near-perfect unlaminated gatefold cover with no creasing, no edge wear, pristine spine and a tight opening edge. When opened, the gatefold sleeve even retains its original "springiness".
In fact this cover is PERFECT, except for the following four little features:
- Small scuff (about 1 inch) to edge of front flap (corner, bottom right).
- Tiny chip to the spine (near bottom) that neatly shaved off the digit "3" from the serial number 6360 029.
- A small, superficial abrasion (lightening) on the front cover (bottom left corner).
- A few of the smallest "chips" to the apple tree leaf on the inside of the gatefold: Very probably glue residue from the original production process that stuck to the opposite side when the gatefold was first opened. For all details, please see the photos.
MINT(-) RECORD. In absolutely awe-inspiring condition, this record can`t have been played more than once or twice! Apart from a single, extremely light spindle line on each label, this record looks unplayed. For want of a better word, this UK first pressing of "Catapilla" is simply perfect.

To top it all off, the record comes in its original custom-printed Vertigo Records inner sleeve. The inner is MINT- and is date-stamped "1/71", or January 1971.
PLEASE NOTE: Over the next few months, we will regularly be offering a number of rarities, mainly progressive and avantgarde records: A very discerning, long-time collector friend left us his treasure chest! Not only are many of these lps extremely rare, they are almost all in MINT(-) condition - both inside and out.
