CHARLES MINGUS Ah Um 1971 Columbia Repress CS 8171 Goodbye Pork Pie Hat EX/EX
Mingus Ah Um is Charles Mingus's most celebrated album and his first for Columbia Records, blending gospel-rooted swing, tender balladry, and pointed social commentary across nine compositions. "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat," an elegy for saxophonist Lester Young, became one of the most covered pieces in the Mingus songbook, while "Fables of Faubus" stands as a landmark of politically charged jazz.
This is a 1971 US stereo reissue on Columbia, CS 8171, pressed at Columbia's Terre Haute plant. Red label with orange "Columbia" text repeated around the edge, correct for this reissue era.

Cover features S. Neil Fujita's abstract geometric artwork. Back cover carries extensive liner notes and musician biographies by Diane Dorr-Dorynek.
