Description

CHARLES MINGUS – Ah Um – On Columbia, CS8171. Nice and Minty! This is an original Deep Groove 1959 Stereo issue with the Columbia 6 Eye label.

Here is another rare jazz find and in immaculate condition too. Featured here are Charles Mingus on Bass, John Handy, Shafi Hadi, and Booker Erwin on Saxes, Horace Parlan on Piano, Willie Dennis and Jimmy Knepper on Trombones, and Danny Richmond on Drums. The Tracks are:

Better Git It In Your Soul, Goodbye Pork Pie Hat, Boogie Stop Shuffle, Self-Portrait In Three Colors, Open Letter To Duke, Bird Calls, Fables Of Faubus, Pussy Cat Dues & Jelly Roll

Condition

The cover is in excellent condition with high gloss, very rigid, with a perfect spine and nice color. There is some slight wear in the upper right edge that you have to be looking for to see and the back has a very small 3.98 price in the extreme corner. There are no stains, creases, splits or ring-wear at all. I’ll grade the cover a NM- even though it looks better than that.

The vinyl is thick, heavy, shiny and immaculate. It’s absolutely gorgeous and looks like it was just opened. Even the deep groove label is perfect and looks like it’s never been played. Just in case I play tested it to check it out and to confirm there are no audible blemishes at all. This is some nice soulful jazz with some unexpected riffs that bring to mind an action sequence in a James Bond movie. This is a great jazz album and as Near Mint as they get. I’m starting the bidding at a mere $20.00 with no reserve.

I ship in LP Mailers with rigid corners and I separate the record from the jacket to prevent it from damaging the cover during transit. I also add extra cardboard to firm up the package. It weighs a little more this way but I’ve never had a report of a damaged record.

I prefer Money Orders or Cashiers checks, but will also take PayPal. Sorry, no personal checks. Payment must be received within 7 days after the close of auction. If you’re unable to pay on time, “Don’t bid”.

U.S. BIDDERS - Shipping is $4 for media mail anywhere in the continental U.S. Insurance is optional but highly recommended.

INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS - Shipping will be quoted after the auction closes. 1 record the way I pack them weighs about 1.5 Lbs, so typical postal rates run $15 to Japan, and $14 to Europe without insurance. I will not allow extra time for international bidders. So, if you’re not able to complete the transaction in my time frame, please do not bid.

The winning bidder must notify me within 24 hours with their shipping address unless you are paying by PayPal – NO EXCEPTIONS.

I will be auctioning off hundreds of rare and collectible records in the next few months. Click on the “ SELLERS OTHER AUCTIONS” link above to see what else is current. I specialize in NM records of all genres and my grading standards are extremely high. NM is my highest grade. Feel free to send me an email with any questions.

Thanks for checking out my auction!
