Description

Charles Mingus-- Mingus Ah Um---Stereo Fidelity--ORIGINAL 1959 6-Eyed Columbia Release.... "Unbreakable...." as described on the label of the LP.

A classic. A monster. Steely Dan's own Donald Fagen calls Mingus his favorite composer. "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat is a tribute to Mingus' newly deceased friend and sax king Lester Young. Also included are nods to Duke Ellington in "Open Letter To Duke" and Charlie Parker on "Bird Calls." The bassist, who served as primary arranger as well as bandleader, is at his best on this album.

My copy for sale is just popping and swinging. It sounds so darn good. I believe that this record, along with "Kind Of Blue." "Time Out,"  "A Love Supreme" and the Modern Jazz quartet's debut are among the must-listen-to gang. They are records that play and ring in rarified air.

Buy this and enjoy life a little bit more : )
