Description
CHARLIE CHRISTIAN The Immortal... w/ Thelonious Monk 1966 UK PRESTO
CHARLEY CHRISTIANThe Immortal Charley Christian
1966 UK PRESTO (PRE 640) FIRST ISSUE
Recorded live at Minton's in Harlem, May 1941
EXCELLENT COPY - SEEN LITTLE USE AND PLAYS BEAUTIFULLY WITH GREAT SOUND QUALITY FOR AN AMATEUR RECORDING FROM THE 1940s - INCREDIBLY ATMOSPHERIC
Electric guitar - Charlie Christian
Bass – Nick Finton
Drums – Kenny Clarke
Piano – Thelonious Monk
Trumpet – Joe Guy
Band – Teddy Hill's Band
PRESSED WITH THE MATT BLACK/SILVER PRESTO LABELS
MATRIX: PRE 640 A / PRE 640 B
THE RECORD IS HOUSED IN A FRONT LAMINATED SLEEVE
WITH A LATER GOLDRING ANTI-STATIC LINED INNER SLEEVE
Aside from the name being misspelled on front and back cover, guitarist Charlie (not Charley) Christian was at the forefront of the bebop revolution.
These tracks show why, and also gives rise to the notion of Christian being the first to wield an amplified electric guitar.
These five cuts represent not only a smidgen of what Christian did before his career was tragically cut short (less than a year after this set was recorded), but open a window into his grand contributions to jazz.
Side One:
Swing Bop
Up On Teddy's Hill
Side Two:
Stompin' At The Savoy
Guy's Got To Go
Lip's Flip
LABELS: NEAR MINT
Clean, unmarked labels - barely a spindle trace to be seen
VINYL Visual: NEAR MINT (EXCELLENT)
Both surfaces shine like new but being a small label/indie pressing there are some in-vinyl blemishes none of which have any impact on the sound
VINYL Audio: NEAR MINT (EXCELLENT)
Plays as-new throughout but the indie pressing has some one-off ticks/low-level surface here and there - nothing I found in the slightest intrusive - superbly atmospheric record
SLEEVE: EXCELLENT
Clean and unmarked - sharp edges and spine - some light creasing/rub - nothing major
POST & PACKING:
