Chet Baker/Jan Erik Vold - Blåmann! Blåmann!
Hot Club HCR-50 Norway 1988
Sleeve : Excellent
Vinyl : Excellent
This very strange and troubled record is among the last recording sessions of Chet Baker’s life. Recorded in Paris in February 1988, it was a mere three months after this session wrapped that Baker died when he fell out of his Paris hotel room window, and landed on the concrete two stories below. As it turns out, this is also one of the most unusual records Chet ever recorded, with anyone, anywhere.
With Baker on trumpet, the very talented Egil Kapstad on piano, Philip Catherine on guitar and Terje Venaas on bass, the band performs an assortment of jazz numbers that show off some solid chops from Capstad and Catherine. Despite their varied backgrounds and the poems’ performance being entirely in Vold’s native Nowegian, the process was smooth and the album has become “the holy grail of Chet Baker albums” over the years.
Original Norwegian issue on the Hot Club label. The sleeve has been signed ( Til Hans fra Jan Erik). Both sleeve and vinyl are in Excellent condition!
