CHUCK BERRY Rockin' At The Hops LP
USA CHESS LPS-1448
This is a fantastic compilation of tracks complied from two session - July 1959 & February 1960.
Chuck is in brilliant form in the vocal, guitar & song writing stakes and is brilliantly supported by Johnny Johnson piano, Willie Dixon bass, Eddie Hardy drums, L.C. Davis tenor sax and Matt Murphy guitar. Yes indeed - THAT Matt Murphy who also found fame alongside Memphis Slim, Sonny Boy Williamson, James Cotton & The Blues Brothers. Chuxks and Matt's guitars meld together beautifully and these sides are definitely right up there with great Mr Berry's finest.
This is also one of the LPs that was under a young Mick Jagger's arm when he ran in to old school chum Keith Richards - this chance encounter led to the formation of The Rolling Stones.
Tracks are: Bye Bye Johnny, Worried Life Blues, Down The Road Apiece, Confessin' The Blues, Too Pooped To Pop, Mad Lad, I Got to Find My Baby, Betty Jean, Childhood Sweetheart, Broken Arrow, Driftin' Blues, Let It Rock
The sleeve has minimal shelf and age wear and marks but has no rips, tears or writing.
The LP is in excellent condition - a couple of very minimal surface marks do not affect play - no clicks, sticks, jumps or pops - the music rings out loud and clear.
