Original 1968 SCARCE first pressing vinyl in old style unipack gatefold cover and on the highly praised and collected GOLD Elektra label of the sixties comes this underestimated WEST COAST sounding UK folk rock band complimemtd wioth a lovely breezy sound and highlighted by wonderful harmonies and female male vocal blends...
Eclection, like several Elektra albums of the period, matched some pretty folk-rock melodicism with slightly arty orchestrated production and a psychedelic tinge. The lyrics and harmonies often evoked blissful, drifting romps through the clouds, with a youthful naivete and exuberance.ECLECTION is a criminally obscure orchestral folk-rock platter was recorded and released by Elektra in 1968, meeting with no commercial success, but winding up firmly ensconced in the pantheon of connoisseurs of that era. It's the kind of record that could've easily launched a group into the stardom that Fairport Convention was quickly acquiring at the same time, but even with the imprint of a prestigious and hip label, somehow got a short straw in an explosion of creative rock music that's still being sifted through to this day.
The multi-national quintet bore an overabundance of talent, quite conspicuously in the case of vocals. Female vocalist Kerrilee Male was in the same league as Sandy Denny, and the way her heavenly voice floats above concise and rich symphonic textures recalls the finest moments of Annie Haslam in Renaissance. It probably would've been better if the group had just one great male vocalist to balance the sound, but instead they had several men with enough talent to carry a band on their own as a frontperson. Happily for us, all these vocal talents makes the album a benchmark by which to judge the male/female vocal harmonies that flourished in that era and sadly have long lost their foothold in popular music culture. Between the vocal harmonies and the bright, sunny blend of acoustic and electric guitars, it's understandable they're sometimes compared to the West Coast sixties sound, somewhat like the The Peanut Butter Conspiracy, but then again we find Eclection vastly superior to the California tag.

CONDITION: The Cover: stiff and solid old style unipack gatefold cover is VG++ clean and solid all over but with a 'touch' of light shelf wear that doesn't really detract but there if looking closey ... no bends, no writing, no split seams
The Vinyl: with the GOLD Elektra label...all clean and glossy both sides, M- and plays delightful with NO problems ... the gold labels are both clean
