PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us. Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Always been super hard to find in any condition, and that is why we don't have it to list...yet, here, a CLEAN copy ...collection ready and full of killer "RATS"
...Original 1969 first pressing in thick dark cover that is usually IF found at all, is full of wear and tear...here a "nice" ORIGINAL copy!
Includes the scarce KAPP Records inner sleeve
Over the course of their career the Good Rats have been compared to many rocker band including The Dead, The Music Machine, Frank Zappa, Blue Cheer and the 1959 B-horror flick "The Killer Shrews." What's amazing is that all of these comparisons make perfect sense once you've listened to their albums. They've probably played as many shows as any rock band in history, they've released numerous albums, usually to positive critical response, and they've shared stages with some of the biggest bands of the 70s. Yet the Good Rats remain virtually unknown outside of their small but loyal cult following. "If the rest of the country was Long Island," Rats' drummer Joe Franco once lamented, "we'd be The Beatles." During the mid-1970's the Good Rats were playing sold out gigs throughout New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. The classic line-up lasted for four studio Lp releases...none as good or as rare for that matter as this, their very first album... On the east coast, the Rats were in such demand that they shared the same stage with major acts. Their formula was cool rock and roll heavy handedness with two quality guitar-players Mickey Marchello and John "The Cat" Gatto, highlighted by Mickey's brother Peppi as the outstanding front man.
In another lifetime, there was this debut self-titled record from 1969. The Marchello Brothers were getting started and although they didn't sell many copies, the first record is a terrific beginning. It didn't contain the rock power of their 2nd Lp "Tastey" but had just as well written and performed, constructed tunes and a certain quality that showed tremendous potential.
The first track "We Are The Good Rats" is a clever way of introducing themselves. A cool rock and roll number.
"Joey Ferrari" may be one of the finest tunes the Marchello Brothers recorded in any Good Rats era. The song rocks out well and contains high energy that doesn't dissolve for even a second.
"For The Sake Of Anyone" Starts off with the lyrics being spoken. A soft arrangement is what you falsely believe. It kicks into overdrive out of nowhere.
"Anyone Got The Time" is unique in construction. On the one hand it could be Tom Jones and on the other there is still a rock and roll band behind it. Very interesting and well conceived.
"My Back Is Achin' (And My Mind Is No Better)" Impressively sounds in the background as if you are listening to the Vogues "Five O' Clock World."
"The Hobo" Pays some homage to the 60's psychedelic keyboard and then the Rats put their own stamp on the recording.
"If You Stay With Me" Captures the sound of the vocal bands from the early 1960's.
"Gotta Get Back" Is from the same terrific cloth as "Joey Ferrari." It's best to call it a tie. If the album only contained these tracks it still would be worth owning.
"The Truth Is Gone" Brings you to the garage rock of the mid-1960's. Straight rock, no frills but a must listen.
"Family Portrait" Gives us a slight taste of the blues and a larger slice of Peppi having some fun.
