LIFE AFTER DEATH
\ UK - POLYDOR - 2383 295
RARE and sought 1974 Original first pressing vinyl of the only album known by the obscure British hard progressive underground crew "LIFE" ... "LIFE AFTER DEATH" starts on a high note with the exploratory “Riding Around/Opus/I Don’t Want To” cycle featuring Hammond organ work to die for from Ian Gibbons...
UK heavy prog act, Life, are another act whose history is shrouded in total mystery. This is particularly odd since their sole album was released by Polydor Records in 1974, produced by the Zombies Chris White but sadly there's nothing more one can tell you about the band's accomplishments or their post-breakup activities.Upon first hearing this fantastic album, distinct shades of early era Uriah Heep come bursting forth and persist throughout each of the tracks here. In fact, their influence is so prevalent here that it can sometimes be daunting to figure out Life's true creative viewpoint. Taking 1st Lp era Uriah Heep as a starting point, the band also brings other styles into the mix and the songs themselves are all well written and dripping with hooks. This is very well done prog influenced hard rock with blues edges while retaining tuneful melodic edges throughout. One of the great covers of the entire underground prog psych early 70's scene.
Collectors drop considerable money to snag this album and surprisingly no label has opted to do a reissue. To remedy that problem, grab one of England's most overlooked underground rock acts from the early 70's; LIFE "LIFE AFTER DEATH"
