"News of the World was released on October 28, 1977 and is considered the peak recording of QUEEN, containing the massive songs "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions" (which are both commonly heard at baseball and football events) and "Spread Your Wings"... the album went four times platinum in the United States alone and is Queen's best American selling album.
The album is considered one of Queen's strongest albums, and a bit of an abrupt departure from the band's progressive mysticism into a much more spontaneous recording. "Sheer Heart Attack" (not to be confused with the album of the same name) is just a lethal super-heavy monster. A fast-paced, supercharged heavy-hitter which may have been designed to induce a heart attack if played too loudly, was written by drummer Roger Taylor, and he shares the vocal with Freddie Mercury, as well as contributing bass and rhythm guitar parts, which give the track it's extra heaviness. The steamy "Get Down Make Love" sums up their raunchy new style very nicely... Elsewhere, the prog rock epic of the album is "It's Late," a tale written by Brian May, and written in three parts (or scenes), featuring explosive John Bonham drumming. Parts of the song are the closest Queen ever got to resembling Led Zeppelin.
