ORIGINAL 2xLp in thick gatefold cover... 1970 FIRST PRESS...we don't often offer this album on our listings as the first pressing is harder to find than you'd think, that is, to find CLEAN ...here is a nice clean copy and still with noth the original black Elektra inner sleeves....
For a successful live album, you have to have one or more of the following elements: Songs unavailable on the band’s studio albums; songs in significantly different versions than the album versions; awesome improvisation (read: solos); crackling live energy. Amazingly, many live albums fail to get any of those elements right, and thus listeners are forced to sit through poorly-recorded rehashes of songs they already own, that offer nothing new besides exposure of the musicians’ deficiencies that were previously masked by the studio recording process. Luckily, Absolutely Live takes a little bit of each category and provides an enjoyable, if not essential, document of an exciting rock band in their heyday. There’s a lot more going on here than their best hits, like the great “Universal Mind” and the full “Celebration of the Lizard” that was mostly excised from Waiting for the Sun. There’s some nice interplay between the band that make even the familiar tunes interesting. There’s the sweet closer “Soul Kitchen”, which is one of the most underrated songs in the band’s catalogue.
Unable to tour in the wake of Morrison's ongoing legal problems (including an arrest for public drunkenness after he passed out on an L.A. homeowners front steps), the band made do with a double album concert set. Recorded during various shows between August 1969 and June 1970, "Absolutely Live" wasn't exactly your average 'best of' - live package, far from it. All but ignoring their radio successes, the set focused on some of their lesser known repetoire - Morrison frequently taking liberties with song lyrics. Among the odder offerings were snippets of Morrison poetry ("The Celebration of the Lizard") and an extended take on "Celebration of the Lizard". Along with Krieger's frequently under appreciated guitar pyrotechnics, the collection's highlights were four new songs: two covers (the Bo Diddley opening "Who Do You Love" (with some killer Krieger buzz saw guitar) and Van Morrison's "Gloria") and two originals ("Build Me a Woman" (first time we'd ever heard the phrase "poontang blues") and "Universal Mind"). Given that it was a double set, the collection's top-10 sales performance (it reached #8) was impressive. It’s all good stuff.

CONDITION: The thick gatefold cover is strong and stiff having just very small shelf wear that was starting, nothing more, so collectible VG++ to "EX" (excellent) with no seam splits, no bends and no writing
The vinyl is clean, real clean, both records, all 4 sides are M- and play beautiful
