===============================
The FREAK SCENE
PSYCHEDELIC PSOUL
USA - 360 Sound Columbia Records - CS 9455
SCARCE and sought-after 1968 highly collectible first pressing of a great, great psychedelic garage album loaded with cool memorable originals, trippy sound effects, fuzz guitar and a tight sound...One look at the cover and you get the idea....
THE FREAK SCENE enjoyed some success with their 1966 album when they were then known as The Deep. The following year the song writing/performing team of Mark Barkan and Rusty Evans decided to take another stab at the public's growing interest in psychedelia and political activism. Signed by major label Columbia Records, the duo pulled together a new band they tagged as 'The Freak Scene' resulting in the release of "Psychedelic Psoul".
Basically it's the second album by The Deep. There are clear similarities between the two albums, and arguably The Freak Scene album is the stronger of the two. Material such as 'The Subway Ride Thru Inner Space', 'Butterfly Dream' and 'My Rainbow Life' offered up a great mixture of over-the-top psych lyrics, stoned vocals and wild studio production effects. The biggest difference with the earlier album was that tracks such as '... When In the Course of Human Events (Draft Beer, Not Students)' and 'Behind the Mind' added a bit of social and political commentary to the acid-drenched mix. It may be an LSD laced offering, but it's first rate and is actually better than most of the sixties 'psych' album competition.

The vinyl is basically clean with only very light shallow & soft scuffs "EX" (excellent) and one label has that very small word, it is real minor as so light ...the vinyl plays top level
