Cleve Pozar's magnificent solo percussion album (called, uh, Solo Percussion), has made the blog rounds, though it seems like Cleve's music is still mysteriously unknown to many, even those who might care to look.  Ostensibly rooted in jazz, Cleve's two singular early records, Solo Percussion and Good Golly Miss Nancy, embody various pan-African, Latin, Indian and Indonesian rhythms as well as some pretty wild tape and synth manipulations, both of which come off less as rootless experimentation and more as something extremely personal, like an x-ray view of an artist's body and soul.

(EXCERPT FROM AN ANONYMOUS ONLINE REVIEW)

Born Robert F. Pozar in 1941, Cleve Pozar was schooled in wide breadth of musical styles, including Afro-Cuban, Latin, jazz, free improvisation, classical, avant-garde, funk, country, polka, & more. In the early '60s, Pozar participated in some of the pivotal events in free jazz & avant-garde classical music, playing with Bill Dixon at the October Revolution in Jazz & with Gordon Mumma, Robert Ashley, Eric Dolphy, & many others at the ONCE Festivals in Ann Arbor. Among Pozar's first appearances on record are some seminal titles: Bob James' Bold Conceptions & Explosions (ESP-Disk), and Bill Dixon’s Intents and Purposes. Dixon also produced Pozar’s first album as a leader, Good Golly Miss Nancy, which was released by Savoy in 1967. In 1974, he followed it up with a private-press album, Cleve Solo Percussion, which introduced his solo act (& a name change). Largely ignored at the time of its release, in recent years it has steadily become an underground favorite.

·                          CONDITION:

·                          THE RECORD:

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)         WE GRADE THE VINYL AS NEAR MINT. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)         The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                          THE COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+(+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3 (front side) and 2 (back side)

-       Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the seams

-       Visible shelf wear noted on the spine

-       Cover has some fraying/wear along the upper seam

-       Cover has a partially split top seam (between 1 and 2 inches  / 2.5 to 5 centimeters)

-       Cover has three corners slightly worn / dinged (nothing significant)

-       Cover has a light "wrinkle" (crease)  in one of the corners.

-       Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

NO OTHER VISIBLE FLAWS OR IMPERFECTIONS ON THE  COVER
