Description
Artist: CLIFFORD BROWN
Title: “Clifford Brown with Strings”
Label: EmArcy RECORDS ~ MG-36005. Monaural pressing on medium weight vinyl. Label is blue with silver text, with deep groove.
Jacket has blue printing, both text and photos, on reverse.
Year: 1955

Condition:
DISC: NEAR MINT with 100% of original gloss, as clean as can be found. Appears to have been played one or two times at most, and handled with care. Labels are clean, except name sticker on Side A label. Fidelity is superb.
JACKET: Heavily laminated “frame” jacket is nice VG+ with no major issues. Front artwork is clean and bright. Seams are intact except for a tiny split (less than one inch) at bottom right corner opening. Reverse has darkened somewhat due to age, and the original owner stamped his name in two places. No stickers. Overall a very presentable jacket to accompany the beautiful disc.
Includes original EmArcy RECORDS factory inner sleeve, in excellent condition.

There are two schools of thought regarding this Clifford Brown with strings session (which has been reissued on CD). Brownie plays quite beautifully and shows off his warm tone on such numbers as "Portrait of Jenny," "Memories of You," "Embraceable You" and "Stardust." But on the other hand the string arrangements by Neal Hefti border on muzak and Brown never really departs from the melody. So the trumpeter's tone is the only reason to acquire this disc which to this listener is a slight disappointment, not living up to its potential.”
