CMU Space cabaret - rare original UK Transatlantic 1973 prog rock LP with insert
Transatlantic TRA 259, 1973 UK issue, matrix numbers TRA 259 A 1E [stamped] A1B [etched], TRA 259 B-1E [stamped] A1D ARUN [etched].
Seven track second album from CMU, whose initials stood for ‘Contemporary Music Unit’.
Cover VG The sleeve is in a substantially sound condition and gives a very reasonable first impression. It has only quite mild storage wear, light creasing and light marks on the front and rear. The top and bottom edges are worn; the spine is firm but worn at the bottom and the top (where the catalogue no. is only partially legible) and has a spot of wear dead centre and slightly around on to the front, which has taken out several letters of the title; open edges are rubbed at the top and bottom but have very little other wear.
The printed single sheet insert (band member pics, lyrics) is in excellent condition with only mild creasing.
A new poly-lined inner is provided; the original inner (slight discolouration and creasing) is also included.
Disc VG/VG+ The vinyl has a fresh and clean appearance; side 1 has some light surface marks, hairlines and one or two fine scratches, only one of which seems to directly affect the sound, causing several faint clicks just after halfway through track 2; a very short fine scratch is the only obvious mark on side 2.
Side 1 label looks perfect, side 2 label has the faded remains of a blue stamp across it and faint spindle marks near the centre hole.
The disc plays without any sticking or skipping, the vocals and instrumentation have great tone and clarity. Apart from the clicks noted above there is some faint or light crackle detectable in places, mainly in quieter sections of the music, generally nothing to worry about, might be considered distracting in only one short section.
